Dr. Christie Akwaowo
Consultant Public Health Physician and Associate Professor of Global Health - University of Uyo
Dr. Christie Akwaowo is a Consultant Public Health Physician and Associate Professor of Global Health, passionate about health systems strengthening and human capacity development for public health. She currently works as an Associate Professor in the University of Uyo and the Director, Research and Training at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Dr. Christie is a graduate of the Millennial Class of University of Calabar, Nigeria, an alumnus of the University of London (London School of Economics and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine) with a masters degree in Health Policy, Planning and Financing. She is also a Fellow of the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria.
She is an advocate of universal health coverage and digital transformation of health systems. Her research work include implementation research focused on digital health interventions, design and adoption of e-health and technologies, she is currently exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into health systems in Africa. She has worked with international, multi-disciplinary teams, to develop the FebraApp, a system for the diagnosis of febrile illnesses by frontline health workers in LMICs.
Dr. Christie Akwaowo is an international scholar and a Global Public Health Leadership Fellow of Africa CDC’s flagship leadership program, the Kofi Annan Global Public Health Leadership.
